Angels

I am just throwing this one out. I think it is significant. When the Bible uses the word angel it really just means messenger. Maybe not that differnt for the greek word for Apostle. Where did we get the idea that angels were supernatural winged creatures that have no free will, and work for God. Most of the time when the bible uses the word angel the one who encounters the angel or angels refers to them as men.
John 1:51 says; And He *said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see the heavens opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man."

Am I the only one who thinks Jesus was telling them he was Jacobs ladder. He told his disciples they would see angels ascending and descending on Him. But where did that happen? Is there an example of non human supernatual messengers ascending on Jesus, descending maybe. I find it easier to believe that this prophetic statement is about his followers and the others who would follow and "understand" how Chist bridged heaven and earth and then they would be the messengers for Christ. I think it is most obviously talking about the imediate future when His disciples would carry the news of him to the world. Then if that is the case what does that mean for me to ascend and descend apon the Son of Man? To me that would be the time in my life I spend asking myself as many questions as I can about who Jesus is, and how he is my answer. Then talk about it.
